About Dr. Miles
Dr. Robert Miles has been a surgeon since 1985 and has been at St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, Alabama since 1990. Dr. Miles' interest in bariatric surgery peaked in 2001 after learning bariatric surgery could be a surgical treatment or cure for diabetes. Further research on bariatric surgery prompted him to begin performing the Roux en Y Gastric Bypass later in 2001 and he became first surgeon in Alabama to perform the Lap Band that same year. Dr. Miles then developed the award-winning Surgical Weight Loss Program at St. Vincent's East.

Education and Credentials
Dr. Miles graduated from the University of Tennessee before performing both his Internship and Residency at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He has served as President of the Medical Staff at St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, Alabama and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
